The opening track, “Dandelion”, holds an intricate mix of delicate strings and folkish inflections. An anti-fairytale of sorts slowly unfolds in the song’s lyrics (”I am a worn out banjo”, “you were looking for an orchid and I will always be a dandelion”). The words paint the picture of a strong willed country girl who is proudly aware of who she is and how that differs from the dream girl her lover has in mind.
Seamus Egan provides electric guitar on the catchy blues-pop track “Go Now”. Egan’s songpen is evident on the melodic “Diamond On Your Hand”, which could easily be mistaken for a Sarah Mclachlan song. It and “Pearls” feature backing vocals by Ellis Paul.
Kate Lim supplies backing vocals and piano on the sorrowful “Jerusalem”. “Sex Bandaid” is a humorously misleading title for this hard and haunting piece of lustful vitriol.
The chilling “Judas” layers soft strings beneath lyrics that ingeniously transform the traditional tale of Jesus and Judas Iscariot into a modern school shooting.
The pretty melancholy of “Anna” and the bluesy encouragement of “Hold On” close the album.
