Tracks like the opener “Lost Along The Way”, the surging title track, and the gentler “California Rain” blend sprawling pop-rock piano with a touch of twang. But it’s the softer prettiness of “Matter of Time” and “Shadows of Tall Buildings” that better showcase the trio’s emotive vocal harmony. Kyler England’s lilting voice is particularly beautiful on “I Miss Missing You”.
“Break Me Out” takes a sudden shift into a soaring indie synth-pop rhythm in the vein of Imogen Heap and Jem, while “Sweetspot” is the kind of Corrs-like pop song that’s begging to be the theme to something. The a capella vampire pirate ballad “My Heart With You” finally falls into the haunting vocal chasm only hinted at in preceding tracks, calling to mind the unified vox of Manhattan Transfer.
I was not granted permission to include an mp3, but you can hear samples at the links below.
