Even Born Again is a six-song EP from singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe. I can’t recall how I first found Sarah’s MySpace, but her voice had such a rich and beautiful lilt that I was compelled to seek out her album. Her vocal style is sometimes similar to Jolie Holland or Cat Power, but her music is much more diverse. She croons soft acoustics as easily as she bares her teeth on harder rock songs.

The title track of the EP has steadily strummed verses and emotive strings on the chorus. “Black Hoax Lie” and the lovely “Two Intangibles Can’t Be Had” have a faint jauntiness to their melancholia.

“Adeline” brims with the kind of gorgeous heartbreak I longed to hear from Lisa Hannigan, yet “Under” simmers guttural guitar beneath Sarah’s purrs and howls.

Sarah Jaffe was recently featured in Paste Magazine and on NPR’s Song of the Day. She is currently recording a full-length album, and I for one cannot wait to hear it.
