Diane Birch: Covers Siouxsie & The Banshees, Echo & The Bunnymen and Sisters of Mercy

Cover songs can be tricky to do well, particularly those of classic songs by bands with their own cult followings. But Diane Birch is no ordinary artist. I loved her Bible Belt album, so I would’ve been interested in hearing any new music she recorded. Diane upped the excitement with her new seven-track The Velveteen Age EP by paying tribute to some of my all-time favorite “goth” artists: Siouxsie & The Banshees, Echo & The Bunnymen, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, The Cure, This Mortal Coil and Peter Murphy.

Diane’s new The Velveteen Age EP is a collaboration with The Phenomenal Hand Clap Band and will be released on December 7th by Curve Records. You can hear Diane Birch’s renditions of “Kiss Them For Me” by Siouxsie & The Banshees, “Bring On the Dancing Horses” by Echo & The Bunnymen and “This Corrosion” by Sisters of Mercy below…

  1. Was compiling an hour of remakes for my radio show this week, and fate once more brought me to your website, and there was a great one right there in the first post (Kiss Them for Me). And, I love the Phenomenal Handclap Band, but was not aware of this upcoming release. So, many thanks!
