Sarah Jarosz: Song Up In Her Head

Guest Post By: Brendan

I was struck by the cover of “Shankill Butchers” on Sarah Jarosz’s debut album, Song Up in Her Head. The Shankill Road is a place that must resonate with every Irish person. Jarosz brings a sweetness to The Decemberists’ song, which makes the source material even creepier. Jarosz made another inspired choice on her sophomore album, Follow Me Down, by adapting the words of Edgar Allen Poe in “Annabelle Lee.” Both albums are worth a listen and feature an amazing array of guests, including The Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile, Jerry Douglas, Seamus Egan, Shawn Colvin, Crooked Still’s Aoife O’Donovan and Abigail Washburn. You can hear Sarah Jarosz on A Prairie Home Companion.
