Amy Stroup: Tunnel

The female half of Sugar & the Hi-Lows goes solo. Amy Stroup’s Tunnel album will be released on February 4th and has a pretty, airy dream-pop sound. Fave tracks: “Falling,” “Dark Runs Out” and “Hold What You Can.” You can download an mp3 of “Falling” at Rolling Stone and download an mp3 of the newest single, “Far From Yesterday,” below…

Gems: Sinking Stone & Pegasus

Gems submitted their trippy new dream pop song, “Sinking Stone” to me, comparing their sound to The XX and Beach House. The latter comparison is more accurate, though Gems seems to have a bit more moodiness about them which I like very much. Their SoundCloud page has several other songs, my favorite being “Pegasus.” The band seems to be unsigned and have not yet recorded an album, though I hope that won’t be true for much longer.

Jezzy & The Belles: Free Mp3!

Here’s a deliciously trippy little track from “dream-pop-folktronica band” Jezzy & The Belles. I’d recommend it to fans of Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Faithless and Portishead. Yes, it’s that good. “Confess Child” is from Jezzy & The Belles’ debut full-length album, Compasses & Maps, which will be released on June 26th. You can download the free, legal mp3 below…

The Good Natured: Skeleton

I love bands, such as The Concretes and The Bird & The Bee, who combine catchy electro-pop with airy dream-pop. British “pop-noir trio” The Good Natured does exactly that on their new album, Skeleton. What sets The Good Natured’s songs apart is the occasional splash of exotic strings or thunderous, syncopated beats. I’m enjoying this album immensely. You can download a free, legal mp3 of the track “Wolves” by signing up for the band’s official email list.
