Grace Potter on One Tree Hill

If you watched last night’s episode of One Tree Hill, you may have wondered who played the female street musician that Hayley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) encountered by the riverfront. She was none other than Grace Potter of Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. In addition to dueting on “I Want Something That I Want” with Bethany Joy, the show featured an acoustic version of Grace’s own song “Ah Mary” from her recent release This Is Somewhere. Both songs are available as The One Tree Hill Sessions – mp3 downloads on Amazon.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals: This Is Somewhere

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals are back with a new studio album, This Is Somewhere, that’s set for release on August 7th. The songs on the album are a little more polished than their previous recordings, which is both an asset and a liability. The smoother sound helps lift the band’s music out of the jam band groove they’d been falling into, but it also cages Grace’s powerful voice.

The two tracks that stand out the most are the catchy and brassy “Mastermind” and the blues-rock “Here’s To The Meantime”, both of which finally unleash Potter’s voice to its full potential.

Other highlights include the building rock anthem “Ah Mary”, the prettily soulful ballads “Apologies” and “You May See Me”, and the twangy panorama of “Ain’t No Time”.
