That Girl With Dark Eyes: Hey Baby Mp3

You don’t see many artists being compared to Sheila E these days, so I couldn’t resist Barcelona disco-indie artist That Girl With Dark Eyes. It would be better if the song “Hey Baby” wasn’t quite so derivative of “The Glamorous Life,” but it’s still a fun track. You can stream and download a free, legal mp3 at Soundcloud…

Introducing “Indie Classical” Ensemble Plumes

The unusual, lovely music of self-described “indie classical” ensemble Plumes floated into my inbox like a precious, refreshing breath of fresh air atop the sea of mediocrity that’s emailed to me on a daily basis. Plumes are currently working on their debut full-length album, which is tentatively set for release in July. In the meantime, you can listen to the orchestral track “Hero and Leander” from the band’s upcoming album and watch a live performance of “Messy Love” below…

Various Artists: Ready for the Sunshine

It’s always a nice bonus when a good album also benefits a good cause. Ready for the Sunshine is a charity compilation CD featuring fifteen indie bands from various countries – including Sambassadeur, Au Revoir Simone, Matt Pond PA, Taken by Trees, Jens Lekman, Camera Obscura and The Submarines. All of the album’s proceeds will go directly to Smile Train, a charity which provides free cleft palate surgery to children in developing countries. The album was sent to me by Ralph Gonzalez of Luminet, who appears on and helped organized the recording.

Ralph Gonzalez originally intended to record the Luminet song, “Pieces of the Puzzle” (which you can download below), as a fundraiser for Smile Train. But the idea gradually grew from that one song to a compilation featuring local and regional bands into this international project. The theme of the charity CD is hope in the form of accessible indie songs and the album flows seamlessly together as a bright, buoyant whole.

Sambassadeur’s “Between The Lines” and Club 8’s “Spring Came, Rain Fell” are shimmering, dreamy Swedish girl pop tunes. Matt Pond PA’s atmospheric pop-folk “Sparrows in the Rafters” and the exotic, eclectic arrangement of Taken By Trees’ “Watch the Waves” are also highlights.

Ready for the Sunshine Tracklist:
1. Sambassadeur (Sweden) – Between the Lines
2. Luminet (USA) – Pieces of the Puzzle
3. Au Revoir Simone (USA) – Stars
4. Matt Pond PA (USA) – Sparrows in the Rafters

6. Lloyd Cole (UK) – Why in the World

12. The Submarines (USA) – Brightest Hour
13. Jaywalk (USA) – Making Sense
14. Hasta La Otra Mexico (Germany) – Turana Hott Kurdis

Contest: Win The New War Tapes CD!

Contest Closed.

I have an extra copy of The Continental Divide, the debut full-length album by War Tapes, to give away. I posted their “Night Unfolds” mp3 last week and the rest of the disc is just as good. I really like this kind of dark, retro “indie” rock, there are elements of The Smiths, Sponge, and even Billy Idol, often fleshed out with a modern arena rock style. See contest details below, along with an mp3 from the CD.

The Prize:

1 copy of War Tapes’ The Continental Divide CD

The Rules:

Comment to this entry with “War Tapes” and your email address. You can also email me to enter, but comments are preferred. All new comments are moderated to avoid spam (which is also why you must include the name of the band in your comment), so it may take a day for your comment to appear if you haven’t commented on Muruch before.

Note: This contest is only open to residents of the continental United States (sorry, but I’m paying postage on this one), but all contestants must enter with a valid email address and the name of the band in order to qualify. The winner of the contest will also be required to provide me with their full name and postal address for shipping purposes.

The Deadline:

The contest will end on Tuesday, June 30th. The winner will be chosen at random and contacted via email.

Go now go! And tell others.
