TV: The Café

My new favorite show is The Café, a quirky, picturesque British sitcom set in a small seaside town. Kathryn Williams’ pretty, airy cover of “Beyond the Sea” serves as the series’ theme song and sets the tone of this sweet, funny and very charming little show. I’ve been watching The Café on my local PBS affiliate on Saturday mornings at 11a.m. EST, but it seems to bounce around the schedule so check your local tv listings and catch it when you can.

Kathryn Williams: Leave To Remain

Kathryn Williams was recently nominated for a Mercury Prize award. Her album Leave To Remain is pretty and delicate, as is her voice. The tracks tend to bleed into each other, in a pleasantly positive way. High points are the ethereal acoustic pop of “Blue Onto You”, the mellow strings of “Let It Happen”, the soft and sweet “Sustain Pedal”, the muffled piano of “Hollow”, and the pure beauty of Kathryn’s vocals on the intimate finale “Room In My Head”.
