Mariachi El Bronx: Mariachi El Bronx (II)

Mariachi El Bronx are set to transform Mariachi music in the same way as Celtic Punk bands like Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys have done traditional Irish music. Formerly known as hardcore punk band The Bronx – despite calling Los Angeles their home – the band changed their name and their signature sound in 2008. Their self-titled debut was released in 2009 and their sophomore album, Mariachi El Bronx (II), just came out on August 2nd, followed by a performance on The Tonight Show the following night. Led by singer Matt Caughthran, Mariachi El Bronx also includes the son of Los Lobos singer David Hidalgo as well as a former touring member of The Killers. The band will join Rise Against and the Foo Fighters for their upcoming tour.

Songs like “48 Roses” simmer traditional Latin instrumentation beneath high energy rock, all with Mariachi rhythms and brass on full blast.

“Norteno Lights” puts a Western spin on the sound akin to The Texas Tornados.

The album’s instrumental title track, which features Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, fully and skillfully embraces the Mariachi style.
