Yes everyone’s seen it by now, but Adele’s new “Hello” video is far too good not to share. Adele still stands in a vocal class of her own. I only wish Doctor Who had emerged from the phonebox in the video….
And I see I’m not the only one who thought of this…
For the first time since I renewed my interest in Broadway-related recordings, my wife (our esteemed Editor) has expressed interest in something I’ve played. It is this masterful arrangement of songs from Bonnie & Clyde (“How ‘Bout a Dance”) and Evita (“Another Suitcase in Another Hall”). Performers Laura Osnes and Rachel Potter were featured in those Broadway shows and on their 2012 cast recordings. I used to sing along to the Evita movie soundtrack as I delivered milk door-to-door in Ireland, and Bonnie & Clyde is among my top 3 cast recordings of recent years, so the blend for me was a sublime surprise.
You can finally see Vienna Teng’s mesmeric cover/mashup of “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” in this newly released video of her live performance on Mountain Stage last year. And in case you missed my rave review of that concert, you can read it in this post.
