Amanda Palmer: New Song “Labyrinth”

Amanda Palmer just released her eerie cover of “Labyrinth” from the musical The Grinning Man, based on Victor Hugo’s novel L’Homme qui rit. All proceeds benefit the Bristol Old Vic Young Co., a youth theater program in the UK.

Amanda Palmer & Jason Webley: New Album “Sketches for the Musical JIB”

Read all about it at Amanda’s website and hear/buy it at Bandcamp.

As old Muruch readers know well, I’ve been a fan of The Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer, and Jason Webley for over a decade. This album, particularly tracks “The Box,” “The Wolf,” and “The Fear Song,” shows how greatly they’ve grown as singer-songwriters over the years and especially in what I’m starting to think of as Amanda’s post-Machete era – Machete, the Bowie & Prince tributes, the Dolls reunion concert, and now this album. She’s no longer the former Dresden Dolls frontwoman or the controversial social media star, she’s Amanda Palmer, one of the most accomplished, talented singer-songwriters of my generation.

Vienna Teng: New Musical Album “The Fourth Messenger”

Vienna Teng lent her masterful singing and songwriting to a new musical, The Fourth Messenger, and the album is now available for streaming and purchase via Bandcamp below. The Fourth Messenger tells the story of a modern, female spiritual teacher (Vienna) who claims to be Buddha and the journalist determined to expose her as a fraud. The standout tracks are those that feature Vienna’s gorgeous voice, especially the lovely ballads “Pebble in a Lake” and “As Long as I am Living.”

Soundtrack: Bridges of Madison County Musical

By: Brn

One of my favorite cast albums in recent years is The Bridges of Madison County, with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown – about whom you will hear more when a movie version of his The Last Five Years is released next year. Brown reveals some behind-the-scenes information about the musical along with one of his leads, Kelli O’hara, in the following collection of Youtube commentaries. Full tracks from the album are included in the playlist. It’s a fascinating story of creativity and a wonderful collection of songs.
