I love Le Thug’s new song, “Basketball Land.” This is what I mean when I say a song is “atmospheric” – it has a particularly powerful, chill-producing, mood-affecting ambience.
The Glasgow band/trio is comprised of vocalist Cleo Alexander, guitarist Michael Gilfedder and keyboardist Dan McColgan. They’ve made occasional waves among the Scottish music blogs, but haven’t received much support on this side of the pond yet. I hope that’s about to change.
Le Thug came to my attention from our pal Song, By Toad, who recalled “the stunned silence in the room once they’d finished their songs. Cleo’s voice is absolutely gorgeous and the way it cut through the wall of noise made by the guitar and keys left us all a bit gob-smacked.” Same here!
Scottish band and Song, By Toad favorite, Meursalt, will perform live at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on Tuesday, November 6th. The band will be accompanied by a full string section called The Pumpkin Seeds. Rob St. John and Withered Hand will also perform. Sounds like a very cool concert to me. Check out the flyer, hear a live version of the new song “Hole” and buy tickets below.
Lil Daggers will release their debut self-titled album via Song, by Toad Records on December 5th. Song, By Toad and I may rarely agree on music, but when we do, we most certainly do. I don’t usually quote PR emails directly, but Matthew’s description of this Lil Daggers album sums up my feelings exactly: “It’s dirty and scuzzy, with elements of psychedelia and garage.” In other words, it’s a good time. You can download a free, legal mp3 of the album’s first single, “Dada Brown,” below…
